The Anatomy Lesson

With poor materials — threads, fibres, colours — Marijs Boulogne creates dream worlds that escape the laws of profit and capital. Her performance work is an ode to innumerable dressers/artists in a world that is in need of clothing, a bed, a carpet, blankets to be born in and to die in.

Embroidery as an eternal work of reparation, as a remedy against that what decays.

The Anatomy Lesson is the theatre performance of the traject 'Excavations', an embroidery work of Eros and Thanatos, the result of an intense physical and mental exploration of boundaries.

The Anatomy Lesson embroiders on these themes. For this forensic fairy tale Marijs Boulogne created an artificial baby. An interactive lesson on the female body becomes a mythical cycle of dying—birth—re-dying.

The Anatomy Lesson is a search for the divine in a body. A lesson in beauty and liberation.
