Silent Writing

Does a human write, or does a writing write a human? Silent Writing is a performance answering this question. In this performance, the critic Lee Young June shows the process in which he writes a critical piece. His main topic of writing is images and machine. In this performance, he will show the whole process of writing a piece of a critical essay in this realm. Mostly people think that as a writing is an incarnation of words in letters, there should be some voice in it. But there is no voice in writing. There are only actions like moving forward, hesitating, turning back and jumping over. The subject of these actions is not a human but thoughts, feelings, references, punctuation marks and relations. The process of writing is a dynamic one in which they collide and interact with one another. The spectators will see it as a projected image on a screen. This performance is a writer specific event, due to the specific way in which Lee Young June writes. He does not write from the point of view of an omnipotent godlike all-seeing eye. Nor does he write with prearranged material. To him, the process of writing is an event in which the thoughts spout like a waterfall and they shape themselves to a certain form. So his writing can never be repeated. It is a very special event that can occur only when thoughts spout out. Silent Writing is a performance without a scenario and its outcome cannot be predicted.
